The exhibition and auction in honor of the 90th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe’s birthday
The next week will be hosted an exhibition in London in the Design Centre Chelsea, dedicated to Marilyn Monroe’s birthday. Visitors can see more than 800 items once owned by Marilyn Monroe, including clothing, jewelry, letters, notes, drawnings and so on.
At the auction will be exhibited outfits in which Marilyn Monroe appeared on screen in the films «Someone like it hot», «How to Marry a Millionaire», and «The Seven Year Itch».
The exhibition will affect the very personal moments in Marilyn Monroe’s life. For example, as one of the exhibits will be presented a letter, in which she shares about her stay in a psychiatric hospital. The organizers plan to show Marilyn not as a global sex symbol, but as a person.
«The items that we are bringing from the estate of Lee Strasberg have never before been seen since Marilyn passed away. They’ve been in storage since the 1960s. The world didn’t know that she was an artist. Here, we see Marilyn as the intellectual, we see Marilyn as the poet, as the artist. But we also see Marilyn as the very vulnerable», — said Martin Nolan, one of the organizers of the exhibition.
