“Island of dogs”, May 3
One of the main representatives of American independent cinema, Wes Anderson, is releasing a new film – “The Island of Dogs.” The film was created in the form of an animation, in which the director excelled – for the puppet cartoon “The Unparalleled Mr. Fox” Wes Anderson in 2009 was nominated for an Oscar. The plot of “Island of dogs” unfolds in Japan of the future: because of the allegedly raging canine flu of all dogs, the countries are placed in quarantine, on a special island of garbage. A brave youngster, Atari Kobayashi, nephew of the mayor himself, is saving the animals from the country’s authorities. The main characters of the film speak the voices of the most famous actors of American cinema: from Tilda Swinton and Scarlett Johansson to Bill Murray.
“Good-bye, up there”
The triumphant at the last Cesar film award was the French-Canadian film “Goodbye, There Upstairs.” In France, the film received five prizes at once – for the best film, script, camera work, scenery and costumes. At the heart of the film is Pierre Lemaitre’s novel of the same name, for which he has the Goncourt Prize. This ironic, witty, bright story takes place after the First World War and tells of two friends, the artist Edouard and the postman Albert, who after the war begin a new life: Eduard writes incredible pictures about the war, and Albert becomes his impresario.
“Goodbye, Berlin”, since May 17
At the end of May in Kiev will be held “Kinorejv” – the festival of German youth cinema. “Goodbye, Berlin!” – road-movie Fatih Akin about the adventures of two teenage losers who are looking for themselves in modern Germany. Also in the program – “Victoria”, about the adventures of a young Spanish woman in Berlin, and “Amelie runs” – an adventure film about an asthmatic girl who escapes from a sanatorium in Tyrol and together with a friend decides to conquer a mysterious mountain, which, according to legend, will help her to be healed.
“Love Pablo”, since May 31
Starring Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz in a drama about Pablo Escobar. The film “Loving Pablo” is based on the memoirs of journalist Virginia Vallejo, who had an affair with a drug lord. Penelope Cruz played the main female role – according to the actress, one of the most difficult in her career. Javier Bardem, in turn, admits that the role of Escobar dreamed the last 20 years – and finally found the perfect scenario.
