Diane Vreeland: “The only true elegance is intelligence”
You need to have a style. It helps to go down the stairs, rise in the morning. This is how you live. Without style, you are nobody. An overabundance of good taste – is very boring.
It is not enough to have energy. We need more thoroughness and precision. If, of course, you want to do something worthwhile.
You do not have to be beautiful. You do not need beauty to anyone. Neither your spouse, nor your lover, lover, or colleagues at work, much less the first man on the street. You do not owe the beauty of your mother, your children, and generally do not owe her humanity. Beauty is not an annuity that must be paid to be entitled to be called a woman.
What do I think about how to dress most? I do not think about the majority.
Why do not you change your dress to pajamas? Why do not you decorate the exhaust pipe of the car with fur? Why do not you draw a child’s world map on the walls so that people with a limited outlook on life do not grow up from children? Why do not you wash your child’s blond hair with exhausted champagne, as they do in France?
I can not endure narcissism, but I approve of vanity.
Vulgarity is a very important ingredient in life. A little bad taste is like a pinch of paprika. Sometimes we all need a pinch of bad taste: it’s useful. I do not like it when there is no taste at all.
There is no need to be born beautiful to be devilishly attractive.
The only true elegance is intelligence. If you have it, everything else will follow.
If you do not know something – well, my dear, just invent it and pray that you will be trusted.
