Who will shoot the PIRELLI calendar in 2019
In 1964, the company that produces automobile tires, introduced its first calendar. Since then, the PIRELLI calendar has received the title of the most prestigious calendar in the fashion world and is published every year. It all started with Robert Freeman, who was the official photographer of the legendary The Beatles. After the pictures he took for the calendar Pirelli became famous all over the world. Every year the company invites the best photographers, models and celebrities.
Participation in shooting a calendar as a photographer means a certain success and an indicator of the value of a professional in the market. Last year, to shoot for Pirelli invited “fashion storyteller” Tim Walker, for the filming of the next calendar, in 2019 was chosen by Scottish photographer Albert Watson. Among his most famous works – a black and white portrait of Steve Jobs in a turtleneck, nude 19-year-old Kate Moss and portraits of Alfred Hitchcock. The photographer also shot Andy Warhol, Tupac Shakur, Sergei Polunin and many others. His work more than a hundred times appeared on the covers of Vogue and Rolling Stone, and in 2015 Queen Elizabeth II awarded Albert Watson the Order of the British Empire for “merits in the field of photographic art.” Watson has been working with Vogue for more than four decades and has produced more than 100 covers for Harper’s Bazaar and Rolling Stone. His work is laconic and often performed in monochrome, so the calendar is expected to be saturated with the most subtext in a minimalist wrapper.
While details of the work on the new calendar Pirelli 2019 are kept secret, but it is known that the shooting took place in April in Miami and New York.
Over the past few years, Pirelli has moved away from the set concept of photographing naked women, which has been adhered to since the creation of the calendar in 1964. For example, in 2016, the calendar was filmed by Annie Leibovitz, his heroines were not supermodels, but influential women of different ages and physiques. In 2017 in the lens of Peter Lindbergh there were 12 Hollywood actresses whose photos were published without any retouching. And last year Pirelli was dedicated to black heroes.
