New York Fashion Week: Diane Von Furstenberg, Prabal Gurung
Diane Von Furstenberg
Creating a collection for Diane Von Furstenberg, Jonathan Sandres noted that he was inspired by the glamor of the 1970s.
“Glamor and nostalgia for the past with the use of innovative fabrics,” – described his creation as a designer.
On the podium of Diane Von Furstenberg, you could see flowing dresses with hand-printed floral prints. High cutouts, rhinestones, fringe, V-neck, asymmetrical one-shoulder dresses and colorful floral embroidery. Wide trousers, bright silk tops and shoes on the wedge were sent to the 70th years.
Traditionally, the collections of the designer Prabal Gurung are a kind of political statement. The inspiration for last year’s summer collection was Gloria Steinem – a Canadian political and social activist who in the 1980s became a symbol of the struggle for women’s rights, in 2016 again influencing the course of history. For the fall / winter collection, Prabal Gurung used the political appeals of feminists and activists, and also launched a fashion flash mob. So it was possible to see fashionable insiders with white bandanas, symbolizing disagreement with the law of Donald Trump about the ban on the entry into the US of citizens from Muslim countries.
The new collection of the spring / summer season 2018 is devoted to natural disasters. One of the main sources of inspiration was the hurricane Irma, which was in the US. Before the collection was shown, a prayer entitled “Give me strength to change what I can not accept” was read out.
In the collection one could see a combination of various tissues tied with knots. Tattered sweaters with torn off elastic bands, dresses with tears, which can be adjusted by means of loops and buttons sewn together in a circle. It was not in the collection of Prabal Gurung and without shortened jackets and waistcoats with broad shoulders.
