History of cruise shows Christian Dior
On May 25 a new cruise collection was presented by Maria Gracia Cury, Creative Director Christian Dior. Last year, the fashion designer went to the California desert. However, this time Maria Gracia Curie decided to stay in France. Fashion show Dior Resort 2019 took place in a large stable of the estate of Chantilly.
The founder of the Fashion House Christian Dior was known as a man who knew how to enjoy life and wanted others to learn this. Just a year after the opening of the fashion house, he launched the Resort and Spring collection. Initially, it was intended for American women who were used to resting on warm islands in winter. Models Dior then called appropriately – Bahamas, Honolulu, Palm Springs, and their main feature was the ease of folding in a suitcase.
And in 1952 the designer wrote in his “Vocabulary of Fashion”: “If you travel a lot, you need compact outfits from light, non-fading fabrics.” Now it sounds absolutely natural and understandable, but then it looked really revolutionary.
The tradition of carrying out cruise shows was revived in 1990 by Gianfranco Ferre, and John Galliano continued – in 2006 he arranged a bright show in New York, after which the cruise collections again became an obligatory part of the fashionable schedule of Christian Dior.
In recent years, the show has become increasingly large and is taking place in unusual places. For example, in May 2015, as the venue of the cruise collection show, Villa Palais Bulle was chosen, the original sculptural house in which the present merges with the past. Then the fans of Christian Dior were invited to the residence of the Dukes of Marlborough, near Oxford, where in 1954 and 1958 the lines H and Courbe were represented.
For Christian Dior, the cruise collection is not only an excuse to hold a show in a new unusual place, but also to tell us about your traditions or little-known facts from history. In 2017, for example, the show of the brand took place in the California desert, but there was also a connection between the present and the past. Thus, Maria Gracia Curie wanted to pay tribute to the line of Christian Dior Ovale.
