Comme Des Garçons launch a new project
Executive director of Comme Des Garçons Adrian Joffe at the opening of the Dover Street Market in Beijing shared his plans for the launch of a new project. “No one knows anything yet, I can only say that this will be a website,” explained Joffe, adding that the creative director of Comme des Garçons, Ray Kavakubo, is already working on his development.
The new line of clothes from the brand Comme Des Garçons will be the 18th for the company, including Noir, Homme, Plus, Shirt, Play and others. According to Adrian Joffe, after the brand is launched online, it will also be presented in six stores around the world. So far, nothing is known about this project, except that it will be a “simple” collection of clothes for men and women.
In the past, 2017, the sales of Comme des Garçons grew by 30%, which brought the company $ 300 million. Experts explain this success by holding an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum costume institute and the Met Gala ball dedicated to Ray Kavakubo.
Fashion brand Comme des Garçons appeared back in 1969, but it did not immediately become a classic of Japanese fashion, widely known throughout the world. The designer and creative director of the brand Ray Kavakubo has already conducted her fashion experiments in Japan for more than a decade. The designer created collections with sweaters with holes from moths, jackets with three sleeves, untreated edges and crooked seams, and all this in monophonic execution – black or gray. The experiment with the retail sale of the Comme des Garçons collection was also ahead of time. The motivation for spending in a carefully orchestrated atmosphere that is neither attractive nor luxurious in the traditional sense – the raw boardwalk and scaffolding – was part of the intellectual message.
The brand also develops concept-storages Dover Street Market (the first was opened in London in 2004, the second, smaller, in Tokyo in 2006), the concept of which was fully developed by Ray. In addition to all the lines of Comme des Garcons, they sell a wide variety of designers, selected by Kavakubo and her husband.
