The new song of Rita Ora caused a scandal
Singer Rita Ora presented a new song called Girls in collaboration with Cardi Bee, Charli XCX and Bebe Rexha. In the text of the song there is a line “I’m 50 to 50, and I’m not going to hide it.” The listeners perceived this as Rita’s kiting-out, but in an interview with People magazine she noted that this is not what she meant, and looking at the song from such an angle is very limited. “When Katy Perry sang I Kissed a Girl, she did not mean that she was a lesbian,” – says the singer. According to her, we are talking about the possibility of being frank, free and talking about what you care about. “This is what Girls really are about, and it’s interesting, I’m not the only one who kisses girls, and many have passed through that, and I’m just one of them,” explains Rita Ora.
Despite this, the song was immediately called a bisexual anthem, but not all supported the initiative. R & B-singer Keilani wrote on her Twitter that in some places the lyrics of Girls cause questions, although she is sure that this was not done intentionally.
Singer Hayley Kiyoko, who in 2017 made a cambi-out and told that she was a lesbian, painfully reacted to the song of Rita Ora. According to her, the track tells about a drunk girl who kissed another girl, and this offends lesbians who made an informed choice, and not just succumbed to the influence of alcohol. “Songs with this message do more harm than good for the LGBTK community.” The track reinforces the masculine view of the woman’s love for a woman, marginalizing her, “she wrote on Twitter.
Both other queer performers and representatives of the LGBT community joined the indignation. Neither Rita Ora, nor her representatives have yet commented on this incident.
